Cavity Walls
If your property was built after 1920, it is highly likely that it was built with a cavity. This means that there is an inner and outer leaf to the building construction, traditionally with an inner leaf of concrete or breezeblock and an outer leaf of brick. This can be identified by the pattern of the brickwork, with all bricks in a regular lengthways laid pattern. Insulating cavity walls involves filling the space between the inner and outer leaf of the property, this allows heat from the inside of the property to be contained better, so you wont need your central heating to work so hard. The process involves drilling a series of holes to the outer leaf of the property and blowing insulation material into the cavity, then applying mortar which matches the existing mortar in colour back into the holes and pointing up. The process is straight forward and a typical job normally takes around 3 – 4 hours to complete.
Also, you do not need to be claiming benefits to qualify – so if you are in the council tax bracket from A – D, get in touch with Shropshire Eco today – and we can let you know instantly if we can offer you the free terms.
Solid Walls
If your property was built prior to 1920 chances are that your property has solid walls. This term refers to the fact that there is no cavity present. Again, this type of construction is identifiable by the brick pattern (i.e a regular pattern of bricks which varies from being laid end on and length ways). Insulating solid walls is done by applying an insulating board to either the outside or inside of the property. Insulating boards applied to the outside of a property are then traditionally rendered over (although other finishes are available) to the customers desired finish and colour. Insulating the inside of the property is achieved via a specific system designed for this purpose. After insulating the walls they are re-plastered and re-decorated to the desired finish.
If your property has solid walls then your property is entitled to FREE wall insulation as well as other upgrades via the Eco 4 Scheme. Contact us today so can guide you in making your home warmer and more energy efficient – for FREE!
